Most of us, even those who didn’t grow up in the church, recognize Billy Graham’s name. He is considered one of the most influential evangelicals of the 20th century, and many people are still being encouraged and even brought to the Lord through his messages today.
In this brief video clip of a sermon he gave before his death, Billy Graham urges us to make the most of our days. “If someone told me at twenty years old that life would go by in an instant… I wouldn’t have believed it. You don’t believe it either.”
It’s easy to gloss over the call to make the most of your life, especially if you’ve enjoyed relatively good health or feel like you have a lot of years left to “do something” with your life. However, Graham points out that the average lifespan of the American male is 70.5 years old. That number has changed slightly since the airing of the sermon – now it’s 78 years. Even so, that’s assuming you’re in good health, you don’t suffer from a tragic accident, as well as countless other factors.
James 4:13 & 14 tells us, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
So, let’s think about what it means to use our brief time here for the ultimate good of loving others as Christ loved us and spreading His Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Billy Graham has a few profound thoughts on the subject, and he is certainly better at conveying his message than I am, so go ahead and watch the video below!
