There is only one step to salvation by grace. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, (everybody) that He gave His only begotten Son, (Jesus) that WHOSOEVER, (anybody) believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.

All we have to do is receive the free gift of salvation by grace. John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on His name.

First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation for EVERYONE THAT BELEIVETH; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

When we believe Jesus paid our sin debt in full, we are given the Holy Spirit and eternal life. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also AFTER ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.

Notice. We were not regenerated by the Holy Spirit until we believed the gospel. Not before.

We know God wants everyone to be saved, and Jesus died for the sins of every one who has ever lived so that any one can be saved, but not everyone is going to believe it and be saved. First Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and come unto the knowledge of the truth. What is the truth? That Christ died for our sins so that anyone who believes is given eternal life through the Holy Spirit at that very moment they believe.

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 And my Father who is greater than all, no one can pluck us out of His hand.

Once we have trusted Jesus as our savior we are a child of God forever. We can get out of fellowship with our heavenly Father through sin, but our relationship never changes. He will always be our Father in Heaven. We will always be a child of God. We can not go to hell because we have no sins to pay for, Jesus has already paid for them all. First John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins, and not ours only, but for the sins of the whole world.
