Let them see you do it. A wise and dear friend, my Sunday school teacher once gave me that advice and it is so true. If you want your children to do something, let them see you do it. Our children learn what they live. Teach them to talk to GOD with honor and respect but also talk to GOD as a dear friend.
I saw this video once that I thought put one's prayer life into a good perspective for children, so will try to share it here. Take your hand, spread out the fingers and trace it, then fill it in as follows: Start with the thumb which when you hold your hand up will point to you and represents all the people closest to you who you love, for whom you are to pray. Then the next 'pointer' finger, which represents all the people far away from you that you love, and those who are not close to you (your enemies), for whom you are to pray. Then the 'middle' finger, which is the tallest, and represents all the leaders of the world: your pastor, teachers, politicians, boss, etc., for whom you are to pray. Then the 'ring' finger, which is the ONLY finger which can not stand alone (try it!), which represents all the weak, hungry, poor and sick of this world who need our help in life to lean on to survive, for whom you are to pray. Then the 'baby' finger, which represents yourself, which is smallest of all, and by this point puts our own needs into perspective, and for whom we are to pray! I thought it was a good formula to help kids know how and what to pray for; hope it helps you too! Blessings, in HIM, Lynn
