Reiki and other forms of "energy healing" are considered Occult practices. The practitioner channels energy from the hidden spirit world to perform "healing". An article explaining these types of Occult practices and their dangers can be found at lighthousetrailsresearch and search for the title of this booklet/tract "The truth about energy healing" http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/blog/?p=12017 This witchcraft and sorcery is condemned in the Bible; King James Bible... (verses for reference please check context) Witchcraft Prohibited Lev 19:26, v31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. Deut 18:10-12, Jeremiah 10:2, Jeremiah 27:9-10 Practiced but condemned 2 Chr 33:6, Isa 2:6, Nahum 3:4-5 Death penalty proclaimed for those who practice it Exo 22:18, Lev 20:6, 27, Micah 5:12 Inflicted death penalty examples for those who practiced it Jos 13:22,1 Sam 28:9-10 which leads to 1 Chr 10:13, 2 Kings 23:24 Divination by another spirit was cast out Acts 16:16-18 Simon the sorcerer an others in the NT Acts 8:9-11 (then Acts 8:18-24), Acts 13:6,8 There are more examples in the Bible and that above site will highlight more problems with similar "modern" (new names but old practices) occult practices that have been accepted by many people unaware of these dangers. To say they are -UN-biblical isn't accurate because you can find them in the Bible, but rather to say these things are known and condemned and to exhort us to stay far away. God Bless you as you study His word!
According to wikipedia, reiki is a healing therapy developed by Buddhist monks that is a hands on alternative method where the "healer" transfers universal power to the patient through their palms. So from that description, reiki therapy is not Biblical.
I'm going out on a limb here. First, I need to say that eBible's guidelines don't appear to say anything in their statement of believe regarding God and healing. He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration. [Dictionary.com: Supernatural = adjective 1.relating to, or being above or beyond what is natural; unexplainable by natural law or phenomena; abnormal. 2.pertaining to, characteristic of, or attributed to God or a deity.] Jason quotes Wiki's definition of Reiki as," is a hands on alternative method where the "healer" transfers universal power to the patient through their palms." Then, Jason says unequivocally that, "Reiki therapy is not Biblical". Here is where I'm stepping out on a limb: [Please note: I'm not challenging eBible's guidelines nor belief. I am trying to look at how different belief systems appear to be different and perhaps even conflicting with each other, and yet, when we break down the terminology of each belief system we may find some interesting similarities and maybe even some sameness.] Even though in Reiki, for instance, use a particular set of words to define what they do {The "healer" transfers universal power to the patient through their palms.} so does Christianity {Luke 40:4 "At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them."} What was/is the difference between 'universal power' and 'Jesus' power' in this discussion? Jesus is God, this we know, in Reiki they speak only in terms of a universal power. Is God the whole of the universe? [Dictionary.com: Universal=applicable everywhere or in all cases; general: a universal cure.] Is God universal power? [Dictionary.com: Power=noun 1. ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something.] Is there any possibility that those who practice Reiki treatment or those who receive Reiki treatment believe that the power that transfers between the hand of the healer and the patient, is, in fact, the same God? If this is so, then, even though the actual word 'Reiki' is not in the bible the source of the power is the same: Universal Power=God. Furthermore, eBible says that Jesus/God is " He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration." Agent: [Dictionary.com: 2. a person or thing that acts or has the power to act. 3. a natural force or object producing or used for obtaining specific results] Regeneration: [Dictionary.com: Biology. The restoration or new growth by an organism of organs, tissues, etc., that have been lost, removed, or injured. Theology. Spiritual rebirth; religious revival. Origins: 1300-50; Middle English regeneration < Late Latin regeneration- (stem of regeneratio). See regenerate, -ion] As we can see, regeneration is the restoration of something that was lost, removed or injured, and in theological terms; reborn. We also see, that this regeneration requires a source of power to make the restoration occur whether it is biological or theological; the Agent/God=Universal Power. In conclusion, what I am trying to say is that even though Reiki, a healing treatment, is not mentioned in the bible we know it utilizes the hands, as Jesus did, to treat and heal people. If the patient believes that the Universal Power=God that is the agent through which the Reiki treatment is transcending through the practitioners hands to the patient why should a Christian be denied that form of treatment if it is going to heal them?
