Romans 8:26-27
Tongues is God the Holy Spirit speaking through us. God knows what we really have need of in our lives according to His will. He prophesies of what we need. He prays through us and prophesies upon our lives.
The spoken word is so powerful! God created the heavens and the earth through the spoken word! That is why speaking in tongues is so important because God through the Holy Ghost speaks things into existence in our lives.

Speaking in tongues is a phenomenon where a speaker, being filled with the Holy Spirit, can speak in a language that he/she is not familiar with. This can be an angelic language or other human languages.

There are two context of when speaking in tongues can occur:

1. For building up of your spiritual being (1 Corinthians 14:4).
2. For prophesying to others, when accompanied by interpretation (1 Corinthians 14:5).

It is important to note that the apostle Paul does not recommend the speaking in tongues in a public manner that creates chaos (1 Corinthians 14:26-27). This does not mean you should not speak in tongues, merely that if you address an audience and speak in tongues, it is pointless without interpretation.
