Most addictions are a physical manifestation or physical response to over stimulation and are a built up tolerance to the overstimulation of some pleasure sense, effecting the performance of the neurons and receptors creating a pernicious cycle of overstimulation, tolerance, lesser gratification for equal stimuli increases consumption in an escalating cycle until some unnatural equilibrium is achieved where negative consequences balance consumption in societally functioning addicts.

In cigarette smokers we usually see users settle in at either one or two packs a day. Many alcoholics limit their intake to 12 beers a day during the work week, some to 6 daily, they function because they are in balance.

Many addicts adopt secondary obsessions and addictions to continue the cycle of gratification while remaining functional. This is one reason why some are considered gateway drugs. The other is the lessening of natural inhibitions inherent in this process of decline.

ex. Cigarette smokers are more likely to consume alcohol at an earlier age and also to abuse it, lessening inhibitions, leading to promiscuity, and other more dangerous behavior like drug use and the potential for secondary and tertiary addictions. Virtually all addictions are unintentional and avoidable.

Today obesity, pornography and gambling are so prevalent in society that the most important health concerns among our poorest people, those on food stamps is obesity, up to 60% of pastors struggle with pornography gambling houses are popping up everywhere many times promoted by government. It is obvious our society is more risk tolerant.

Addiction is a disease characterized by denial and deceit: lying to ones self and others. By nature it is usually driven by wanting something we don't have or covetousness, usually involves theft of some sort, often includes adultery, makes idols of vices and by nature is disrespectful of ourselves, parents and God.

Addiction has the seven deadly sins written all over it. Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. Each is a form of Idolatry-of-Self.

Today in our society we: are sold "medical marijuana" when everyone knows it is for recreational use, normalize homosexuality, accept over sexualization of teens, condone prostitution, expect people to cheat on resume's and taxes, encourage sloth in the welfare community and fight for the right to kill babies in order to protect the right to fornicate without consequence.

Billy Graham had it right when he said " If GOD doesn't punish America, HE's going to owe an apology to Sodom and Gomorrah".

If disease can indeed be diagnosed by it's cure, then it is fair to say that many addictions are spiritual in nature. Even the rational and scientific recovery methods stress, fellowship, and a holistic or spiritual component to recovery.

The cure you choose for addiction is an extremely important one. It can lead from the frying pan to the fire. Therein lies the proof of the Demon.

I don't have a masters or a P.H.D. In any field that's related to addiction; I'm taught and qualified by the Holy Ghost and by personal experience. Addictions do not primarily have a demonic root but Demons can and will play a big part in the influences that lead to addictions. We must remember that the enemy came to steal, kill and destroy, so he rules and operates from the realm of the flesh which wars with the Spirit.

It takes an addict to know an addict. By the time I was 14 I was already an emotional mess, full of anger and hatred. It was easy for me to start with smokes, then alcohol, pot and so on. No one begins to use with a goal of becoming an addict. The lie that people tell themselves is that it won't bappen to them and that they can control it. Once you are hooked the demonic forces develop formidable strongholds in the mind so that even when a person wants to stop they can't.

I've been on both sides of the fence. Once I was delivered I went into full time ministry working in Christian drug rehab programs for 12 years. Yes there are many ways for an addict to be clean but the only sure fire way to stay clean is Christ. Christ is the answer and the solution for the addict!

Absolutely. I spoke to a psychiatrist who's specialty was in the area of addiction. She said that demonic influence was definitely a factor in addictions and said that deliverance ministry was a successful way of breaking addictions in multiple people that she had seen.
