One of my favorite Bible verses is the last verse in the book of John. "Jesus did many other things as well. I suppose the whole world would not hold the books if they were!" How true this verse is. Even just what Jesus has done in my life would take volumes. And that would apply to every believer. What this verse says to me is that what "made the book" (was included in the Bible) is important and chosen by God. I believe we were given the Bible for one reason (well actually for many but one main reason), to point us and lead us to Jesus. Even the old testament points straight to Jesus. So to answer your question, what was going on in the rest of the world, though maybe important in history, was not important for God's purpose. We were given all that we need to find Jesus. Can you imagine some of the other things Jesus did. If they didn't make it in, how precious is what did.
The Bible is not a History book, in the strictest sense of the word. The Bible does contain historical books, however, it is told from the limited perspective of the Jewish minority. So please don't expect it to talk about the Vikings, Chinese or Indians.
