Another aspect of psychological counseling is psychiatry, which also deals with the physical treatment of disorders of the mind. In my late teens I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with treatment resistant depression, which (in my case) could NOT be helped with talk therapy alone. I needed the addition of medication, which took many years of experimentation and, unfortunately, resulted in several hospitalizations and other unhelpful treatments. Finally, a DNA test showed three or four newer medications that would help fix the chemical unbalance in my brain; my doctor chose one of them, and within only two weeks my depression disappeared and peace returned for good! I’ve been well now, at age 65, since April of 2019, able to rejoin the music ministry of my church again. It is important to say that l’ve been a born-again believer since 1975, filled with the Holy Spirit, and without my relationship with the Lord l would not have regained the peace that God gave me at salvation.
