With 3 adult children myself, I have 3 suggestions:

Remind ourselves to trust God everyday. God brought these kids into the world. He has already numbered their days. He has prepared good works for them to complete and his plans are always good, pleasing and perfect. They belong to him and he is responsible for them now.

Pray and watch God work
Stay connected to our children so we can pray for their specific needs and watch God answer your prayers. Our trust in God will grow as we see him working in their lives.

Refocus on the Lord's Work
When adult children leave home there is now a huge surplus of time and energy that used to be devoted toward them. Now we need to refocus that time and energy to the new assignments the Lord is giving us. Taking our focus off the children helps us to let go.

As a Christian you pray that you have brought up your kids in the Lord. You will be there for them for advice and emergencies and prayer. After they leave home, you cannot live their lives for them. You have to trust that the Holy Spirit will guide them and teach them in all things. Your kids will always be your kids, but when you let them go, you have to let them take responsibility for their lives and be there for them whenever they ask for spiritual, moral and sometimes financial support. They should respect and honor you as the Lord commands.

You have to be a friend, councilor, mentor, but most of all an example for a godly life. Let them go, they will learn by their mistakes and will thank you for all the hard work you put in their life. I pray every day for all our kids and their families.

No one is perfect in bringing up their kids, but if we know the Perfect One, Jesus Christ, we know they will be in His perfect hands. We cannot worry, for worry is a sin, so we just have to trust in God for the rest of their life.

Never, ever let go of your adult children. Remember that children grow up and reflect our ability to be good parents. Pray for them. Celebrate their victories as your own and mourn their failures as your own. Your duty as a parent never ends.
