The framing of questions like this one can be very telling.

"Should a Christian GET INVOLVED..."?
That right there puts a negative spin on the whole notion of a thing!

There's no need to demonize hypnosis. It can be used to give comfort where there is discomfort. You don't have to contact the dead, or call on the power of the prince of darkness, or anything like that! To even make reference to such practices at the mere mention of the use of hypnosis, is to reveal a tendency to overthink what it means to trust in and follow Jesus.

What does being a Christian have to do with whether or not a person should GET INVOLVED with hypnosis? Are you required to disavow your walk with Christ before being hypnotized, or before becoming a hypnotist? I don't think so.

Is it sinful to allow yourself to be open to the power of suggestion? I don't think you have to be formally hypnotized to allow yourself to be controlled by an authority other than the Spirit of God. Soldiers hitting the beach, charging ahead into the onslaught of machine gun fire comes to my mind!! (I think, 'What powerful drug are they on?') They've been convinced by their training that what they are doing is worth the risk! (They didn't get off the bus at basic training in that frame of mind. They ain't been hypnotized or drugged either).

It's okay to take medicine for health reasons. It's okay to use hypnotism for health reasons. Jesus' authority isn't threatened by his followers trusting His assistants...
