I find that the New International Version translation of the verse in question clarifies this issue by wording it as follows: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us". The power in question is thus not some indefinite force, or a power that is present through our own efforts, but the presence of God Himself (in the person of the Holy Spirit) indwelling each believer, which Jesus promised His followers (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is present in Christians (as Paul said in 2 Corinthians 1:22) as a "down payment" or guarantee from God of the eternal life that they have received from God as a result of faith in Christ, and as a foretaste or preview of eternity, when they will be continually in God's presence. The presence of the Holy Spirit within Christians enables them to perform acts that are pleasing to God (which they could not do in their unsaved state); to continually grow in their faith and knowledge of God, in order to progressively become more Christlike throughout their earthly lives; and to assist them in being a witness of their faith to others, both in active evangelizing, and by the example of their conduct and demeanor in their day-to-day lives.

We are taught to study to show thyself approved into God. By studying his word it empowers us to know more about what God expects out of us and how to bring others to him. That is power that works within us.

Ephesians 3:20 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, Ask … Ask All that we ask Above all that we ask or think Abundantly above all that we ask or think Exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think Able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. Source unknown What is God's power that works within us? It is God’s power at work in His redeemed people, the resurrection power described in Ephesians 1:19-20 -- The same resurrection power that raised Christ is at work in believers, making them holy, sustaining them in trial -- Jude 1:24 – God “is able to keep you from stumbling", building Christ’s church -- Ephesians 3:7 – Paul became a servant “through the working of his power.” --> power at work for church ministry., and bringing His saving purposes to completion. (Romans 4:21 – Being “fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” Fits God’s power to fulfill His saving purposes because Jesus Christ would come through Isaac's line.
