James 1:17 says: Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights. Gods children are lights. Gifts of charity come from God even through government entities. All giving is from God. God is love. Love is giving. 1 John 4:7-10 My wife and I tithed on our unemployment compensation and we did without nothing. We sold all our furnishings ar the time and replaced them with new. All we bought was bought at 90% of its value at the time. It was an incredable time of the Lord proving that he could supply all our needs. In times of abundance and during a time of scarcity.

The Bible principal of tithing asks us to return to God 10% of our income. God owns everything, including our finances. When we tithe we are acknowledging this fact. The 10% is not ours to keep, is God’s and in faith we should return it to Him.

In Matthew 23:23 Jesus was not rebuking the Pharisees for meticulously paying tithe, as some have argued, but for lacking justice and mercy and faithfulness. Also, it was suggested that the NT is silent in this matter and the newly formed Church did not tithe. This idea however, is in conflict with Acts 2:44 were we read that new Church went way above 10%; they gave everything they had. So, out of whatever we receive, salary, bonuses, pension, child or spousal support, inheritance, Social Security benefits or any type of assistance, in faith, 10% should be returned to God.

Tithing is an old testament law. Under grace we are to give what ever God has laid on our heart to give, not out of compulsion, but by love for God and what He has done. We are not even to let the right hand know what the left hand is doing.

Giving can only be done with a heart toward God. Giving to get is not giving. We are also to give to those who can never pay us back. That is what God did for us. He gave us the free gift of salvation so that we can show our love to Him by giving to others.
