NKJV - 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.

I would say that Paul was referring (in the verse cited in the question) to the case of a formerly non-Christian couple who were already married when one of the spouses became a Christian, in which case the couple should not divorce if the unbelieving spouse is content to remain with the believing spouse, but the believing spouse should act as a witness to the unbelieving spouse, with the goal of converting the unbelieving spouse, if possible. In the case of unmarried Christians, Paul advised them in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 not to enter into marriage with a non-Christian, which Paul likened to fellowship between light and darkness, or between the temple of God and idols. In that regard, Paul cited Isaiah 52:11, which called on God's people to separate themselves from uncleanness.
