Jesus says throughout the Gospels, "by their fruits you shall know them" (Matthew 7:15-20). So consider the fruits of the Holy Ghost and if you can see them, even if only just, in your life. And if you can't, invite the Holy Ghost into your heart, and you are sure to see them. "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23) "Come Holy Ghost and fill the hearts of thy faithful, kindle in them the fire of thy love. Send forth thy Spirit and they shall be created. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Ghost, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Ghost we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen." N.B. Rolling around on the floor speaking gibberish is not a fruit of the Holy Ghost.
I went to school with Chip Ingram -- the school was Dallas Theological Seminary. He draws 4 evidences of the filling of the Spirit in a believer's heart. He cites Ephesians 5:18-21: 1. Our speech (this should be evidence that I'm filled with the Spirit.) 2. Our singing (about and to the Lord) 3. Our gratitude 4. Our submission
