Why aren't people reading the bible anymore? How can people know God, but not know the Bible?

I notice many in the church do not know scripture. Nor do they open the bible. After carefully questioning many who love God, I find that people don't have time in their busy and hectic schedule to turn to God's word as often as they would like. So the question remains, if the flock of the church doesn't read the bible and spend time basking in The Lord, then how do they know God? I'm seeing this more and more, people relying on their own understanding instead of God's word. I would like everyone to encourage your flock and loved ones to read, pray and receive God's word and Grace N Mercy. God Bless....James from First Fruits Ministry.

The main reason why many people are not reading the Bible is that a lot of education in school system teaches that the Bible is not a reliable source. As a parent, we often had worship and bible study, but the school teaches theory of evolution which contradicts the bible. Our children are in a battle between the Bible and world.

If we as a parent, not living by the Bible then our children will drift to the other side and not embrace the Bible.

Honestly speaking, the devil will never give you time to read your bible and study the word of God. He knows, that anyone he can neglect study of the Bible and prayer he will overcome.

Many also, do not believe that its the very word of God, its like a literary book, thus making it less and less important.

People have to make it a priority to read it and not just read it, but also bring into their lives. This is the best way to show that you believe in the Bible.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16 KJV)

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11 KJV)

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12 KJV)
If someone says he known God without reading Bible the word of God is playing with his other spiritual life because it is only word of God we can use to wage war against the rulers of the darkness of this world and bible says do not allow god words to depart from your mouth if you know him your heart will always thirst for his words. Please out of no time creat time to study bible so that devil will not rule over you. Amen

We speak to God via prayer which is simply talking to God. He speaks to use via the Bible. If we truly love him we want to communicate with him regularly both in prayer and in reading the Bible. It is amazing how he will answer our concerns and questions when we spend time with him in the word and in prayer. Al Enderle

That is an excellent question James i have often asked that question as well. At John 17:3 Jesus pointed out that everlasting life meant tanking in accurate knowledge of God and his son whom he sent forth, also at 1st Timothy 2:4 we are reminded what God's will is "This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth". It truley would be impossibe to gain accurate knowledge without reading God,s word daily and more important making personal application in ones life.

The only way we can believe in and accept the Bible as God's Word is to study its origin. Where did the Bible come from? Who wrote it and when? Is it truly inspired by God? Only after knowing the answers to these important questions will we understand that everything that is written in the Bible is true and accurate.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

This verse speaks to where we are today and why more and more Christians are brushing God's word. We always need to exude extreme caution when pastors teach little if any scripture at all. People fall head over heals for people like Joyce Meyers, but if you really listen to her, hardly uses scripture. Another example would be Rob Bell. These false teachers are more interested in bringing the crowd entertainment. People believe that the word is out dated and not valid for today's times, but it most certainly is. I'd encourage everyone to seek after God's word in these last days, now more than ever!

These are the signs of time people of God , we are living in the "days of Noah" were it have come so apparent that narrow is the way that lead to life and a few will find it . People can never know God whilst operating outside the bible, this will take us to a point where God said my people perish because of lack of knowledge, even Pharisees fall into the same trap denying the very Messiah they have been waiting for because they did have the word that would point them to the Messiah as it did to the Wise man from the east

Reading the bible isn't enough. Living the bible is the way. Remember it's not about us it is only about Him. It is our duty to make sure we are giving our life to The Lord. We worry about our salvation and God wants us to stop focussing on our wants and needs and to focus on His. We can't save anyone, only God can, but if people are focused on ourselves and our needs how then can God get the word out to the world. People of God the focus needs to be Gods will. We do not have much time on this earth...it is time to bring our people to The Lord. Let God speak to your heart.

Here we go, this is my understanding.
Second part first. How can people know God but not know the Bible? By word of mouth. By being fed God's word by others who are learned in the word. In church services, home Bible studies, Sunday school, missionaries, person to person, friend to friend, crusades, concerts. Through our communication network, which reaches millions daily: T.V. radio, computer web sites, the phone, and whatever else is out there communicating God's Word.

The Bible grows us into maturity so we can be: Preachers telling others what God says in His word (the Bible). Teachers, missionaries, whom the Holy Spirit guides in the Bible.

Why aren't people reading the Bible anymore? They are!

But for those who are not reading the Bible, let us tell them why they should, what they are missing out on! The Bible is unfolding God's history, and we are all part of this story unfolding for his purpose; it pleases God to give himself and his story to us.

Tell everyone the Bible is exciting! From the beginning to the end. How wonderful a reading it is, how it is God's living word. All the why's, where's when's and how's are in the Bible.

Who is God? Why are we here? Where did we come from? For what purpose did He create us? How can we know Him?

The Bible is poetic, it is musical; all the worship and praise in the hymn books are His. (Psalms). The Bible is romantic read (Song of Songs), it will make you blush. The Bible is wisdom, knowledge, understanding, very educational.(Proverbs) The Bible is story after story of a relationship with God and man. (Old Testament) The Bible tells us what was, what is, and what is to come. (As we are a curious creatures and want to know.)

The Bible teaches us how we should live, and love, and overcome, through prayer. The Bible teaches us about God's holiness, His goodness. It teaches us about sin that caused us to lose our relationship with Him, yet by His grace, through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ, God made a way to reconcile us back to Him. Then He gave us the Holy Spirit to reside in us, and that is so exciting. We are now a new living species, we will have everlasting life. (How we make movies about living forever, without realizing we can, through Jesus Christ.)

So tell the unfolding story, teach, preach, plant God's seed, then leave it up to Him to grow in each individual, do what we can, tell the good news.

My few words that tell you my answer to these questions.
Penny
