We know that Jesus is coming again because the Bible promises that He will return, and we trust the Bible as the Word of God. Jesus came the first time just as the Bible said He will which should strengthen our faith that He will return the second time as the Bible tells. In 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 wrote Paul that Jesus died and rose again and will come down from heaven to take the saints to be with the Lord forever. Jesus Himself was unambiguous about His return (John 14:2, 3; Matt 24:27; Mark 14:62). Paul, too, expressed certainty about Jesus’ second coming (Titus 2:13). And in Revelation, the apostle John gave us a word picture of Christ’s second coming (Rev 14:14). Another reason why Christians believe in the nearness of Christ’s return is the signs of the times, the things that Jesus and Bible writers said would indicate the approach of His second coming. In Daniel 2 is outlined world history in advance. The Babylonian Empire, would be followed by three more empires, which we now know to be the empire of the Medes and Persians, the Greek Empire, and the Roman Empire. However, Rome was not to be followed by another empire. Instead, Rome would be broken up into the nations of Europe that we know today. And those nations, Daniel said, will eventually be destroyed by God, who will establish a global kingdom that will never be destroyed. And the New Testament identifies this kingdom as the one Christ will establish at His second coming (Rev 11:15). So far, every detail of Daniel’s prediction has been fulfilled. Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome have all come and gone. Today, we live in the time of a divided Europe. Extremely unlikely that Daniel, writing 2,500 years ago, could have predicted world history in advance that accurately unless God gave him the information. Thus, we can be confident that God’s kingdom - the only remaining part of the vision - will be fulfilled just as Daniel predicted. The Bible gives a number of other signs that will precede Christ’s return and one indicator that Jesus Himself gave has never taken place at any other time in history (Matt 24:14). Today, the Gospel has spread as never before in history. People in every nation of the world are hearing about Jesus. The preaching of the gospel to the whole world is without a doubt the most specific sign of His soon coming that Jesus ever gave. Today’s communication technologies - satellites, radio, TV, e-mail, and the Internet are making it possible for Jesus to be preached on a global scale with amazing speed. People in remote parts of the world or in places where governments do not allow the Word of God to be preached, now they are able to read the Bible online or participate in church services via Youtube, Facebook, Roku, or many other live streaming services. The Bible is filled with promises and signs that the Jesus who died 2,000 years ago to give us eternal life will come back again. That’s why Christians, despite all these years, haven’t given up hope in the Second Coming.
There are lots of scriptures that declare and prove that Jesus is coming again. Here are a few examples. Luke 18:8 However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth! Matthew 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”. 1 Thessalonians 3:13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our \God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. Matthew 24:27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Matthew 25:31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels. Mark 13:26 At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. Luke 12:40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also will be where I am. Acts 1:11 Men of Galilee, they said, why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven. 1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. 1 Corinthians 11:26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 15:23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 2 Thessalonians 1: 9-10 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you. Revelation 22:20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
