Israelology basically teaches that many of the prophecies associated with the ancient Nation of Israel especially with regard to the Promised Land have not yet been fulfilled. However, others dispute these claims and hold to a doctrine called, among other things, Replacement Theology. Replacement Theology teaches that the Church replaces Israel because they rejected Jesus. In this way, the Church inherits all the promises God made to Israel. Nevertheless, in this discussion, I will briefly mention why many support the doctrine of Israelology.

In my opinion, in strong support of this claim, Paul tells us in Romans 10:19-21 that in rejecting Jesus, Israel was fulfilling prophecies issued by Moses and Isaiah. (Deuteronomy 32:18-21; Isaiah 65:1) Both Moses and Isaiah tell us that God would establish a relationship with the Gentiles to make Israel envious.

Then in Romans 11:5-11, we are told that, as a means of dealing with the Gentiles, God temporarily gave Israel “a spirit of stupor.” This “stupor” has lasted down to our day while the largely Gentile Church was being built.

Finally, Paul tells us at Romans 11:25-27 that the temporary “hardening” of Israel will only last until the “full number of the Gentiles has come in” or until the Church is completely filled in the end times. Then the Bible says: “ And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘ The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. (27) And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.’ "

In fulfillment of Paul’s words, when Jesus sets up the Kingdom we pray for in the Lord’s Prayer, he will literally rule the nations from an earthly throne in Jerusalem. King David will be resurrected and be a co-ruler with Jesus.

The apparent clincher to the doctrine of Israelology was the establishment of the Jewish State in 1948. It was named Israel with many saying that this was in fulfillment of Ezekiel 37:20-28. Here is says that God will “(21)... take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land. (22) I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.... (24) My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. ”

This is a very brief presentation of what Israelology is and why many believe it to be true.
