Jeremiah is referring to thick forest-like vegetation that grew along the banks of the Jordan River that almost had the character of a jungle, in which animals such as lions, leopards, and wolves (as also referenced in Jeremiah 5:6) could live. When the flooding of the river drove these beasts from their habitats, they would prey on domestic flocks that were grazing in the verdant pasturelands located farther from the river..
