In my opinion, although the Old Testament recounts instances where the mantle was a literal, physical garment worn by a prophet that could be passed on as a symbol of the prophet's calling and authority (as occurred, for example, between Elijah and Elisha in 2 Kings 2:13-14), this symbolism has been superseded by the activity of God Himself as the Being who calls or designates individuals to be prophets as one of the gifts that He bestows on His followers, as noted in passages such as 1 Corinthians 12:28 and Ephesians 4:8-14.
