Three ways that occur to me would be:

continually increasing knowledge of God through study of His revealed word in the Bible (either individually or as part of a group), and of commentaries on the Bible or Christianity by respected and acknowledged Christian writers (C. S. Lewis has been of particular value to me in that regard);

orienting personal focus to look for and perceive God's involvement in events on multiple scales (personal; interpersonal; national; international; and historical), particularly with respect to the ongoing fulfillment (up to the present day) of prophecy; and

regular association with other Christians for encouragement; for additional evidence of God working in or through their lives, either individually or corporately; and for their personal insights into the ways in which God has revealed Himself to them.

The disciples did not experience God in a fresh way until they responded to Jesus mission to “Follow Me”. Once they did they experienced first-hand the mission of God through the life work of Jesus. They experienced WOW (fresh) moments with Jesus every day they spent with him.

We can have that same experience today if we are truly willing to “Follow Jesus”. Jesus has a mission for our lives that he wants to accomplish every day. What if we started every day with this prayer “Lord Jesus, show me today the mission that you want me to accomplish for your kingdom and I will walk in it”.

There are 5 different ways that God guides us to accomplish his mission:

Commanding scripture
The Holy Spirit will highlight scripture and make it come alive for us to guide and direct the decisions we make.

Compelling Spirit
The Holy Spirit will put thoughts in our minds to guide our decisions and actions. He may give us dreams and visions. Names may come to mind of people to pray for or share the gospel with.

Common Sense
As we wrestle with what to do in prayer, the right course of action will become apparent to our minds and we will move forward with confidence.

Counsel of the Saints
As we discuss our lives with fellow believers, they may have words of knowledge or wisdom to guide us that we are convinced it is the Holy Spirit speaking to us.

Circumstantial Signs
We may experience God’s supernatural protection from evil in a tangible way. We may see a door open or an obstacle removed that we never thought possible.

Full time missionaries have these fresh experiences with God all the time because their lives are singularly focused on fulfilling the mission that Jesus has given them.

For us part-time missionaries who have other responsibilities like jobs and families, we can still have these kinds of experiences when we take of faith seriously - when we sincerely want to accomplish the mission of God in our lives and begin every day with that prayer.
