My understanding of the meaning that Jesus was conveying relates not to the nature of the act of giving, but of the gift itself. He was saying that an inheritance in an earthly or worldly sense was normally a tangible asset, whereas what He was giving His followers was an internal quality (spiritual peace with God).

This inheritance (although it could not be seen or touched) was more abiding or lasting than any object or possession that was subject to deterioration, or that would have to be left behind at death in any event. The gift that He would give would continue to benefit those who possess it forever in eternity as well.

The peace that the world gives is entirely dependant on outward circumstances. Our country is at peace with other countries, we are not involved in any conflict. We are at peace with our neighbours or co-workers because we don't have any ongoing quarrels with them. Our lives feel secure - we have a good steady job, good health, good friends, etc so we don't have much to worry about, so we feel at peace.

The peace that Jesus gives comes to us through the Holy Spirit, who lives in us to give us the wisdom, protection and power to accomplish God's will for us. This peace does not depend on our circumstances. It depends on God's nature and character. It depends on God's promises to us. God promises to meet all our needs according to the glorious riches that are ours in Christ Jesus.

Once we come to understand as Christians that nothing can happen in our lives that is not God's will for us, and that God promises his will is always good, pleasing and perfectly suited for us, then we can experience his peace. We choose to believe what God says about his relationship with us and his plan for our lives. Then the Holy Spirit gives us the faith to trust in our belief with our whole lives. God's peace is the product of this trusting relationship. The world cannot understand this peace because it can only be experienced through a close personal relationship with God.

The peace that the world gives is pleasure and treasure for the most part, (not genuine peace). And it is only temporary. Christ's peace--the peace Christ gives-- is permanent. We should, like Moses, want this kind of peace.

Hebrews 11:24-25 24By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. 25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.

It's simple really. His kingdom isn't worldly. That would mean being baptized in church and repeating after the billions of indoctrinated children about being saved isn't his way. You will know when you're truly saved. There's a feeling of peace like you've never felt. The weight of the world's yoke starts to lighten if not fall from a true believer.

This might seem incorrect to traditionalists but remember that the people who believed Christ's message the most were usually strangers or new associates. His family thought he had become insane and his community didn't believe him either.

Logically if you are supposed to follow Christ, don't you think a similar experience might happen? If we are told to take the narrow path how can organized man made traditions supercede Matthew's, Mark's, Luke's and John's red lettering?

A lot of people are spiritually blind and deaf. Perfect example is the church's stance on a man loving another man. Take a look at Matthew 19 12. Modern day pharisees and elders will try to define what eunuch means. Use the brain God gave you and know that there are many definitions. If you claim to be a Christian then you should follow Christ's path only. Christ showed love and compassion to what society considered unclean, ugly, and unattractive. Why is this? Because the mind and hearts of some men are wicked. They would rather condemn someone for a perceived flaw instead of working on themselves as Christ commands. The point of this is that it doesn't matter what the world labels you. If you really believe and ask to know, God will reveal himself to you.
