First, I would say that the very existence of mental illness is attributable to the fallen condition of the world into which Satan led humanity.

To the extent that such illness makes it difficult or impossible for an individual to think logically, understand Scripture and commit it to memory (in order to refute Satan's attacks, as Jesus did), control impulses, or behave in conformance with laws or prevailing social standards, each of those conditions would cumulatively increase an individual's vulnerability to Satan's activity and temptations.
