The Bible contains multiple examples in both the Old and New Testaments of men of piety and faith (including David and Daniel, who have both been suggested as possible authors of Psalm 119) who incurred the jealousy, anger, and enmity of evildoers who resented them for their devotion to God; for the favor shown to them by God or other people; and for their rightful condemnation of the evildoers' deeds, which led those evildoers to persecute each of them in various forms, even to the point of death (as in the case of Christ). This is the same reaction that Jesus told His followers in passages such as Matthew 10:22 that they would also experience as a consequence of being His disciples.
We, God's children, are different from others in this world, lost people whom Jesus called "the children of this world" (Luke 16:8). We are non-conformists (Romans 12:2 -- "And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God"). That makes the world mad when we don't join them in their sin. Ephesians 5:3 "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints." New Living Translation You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. -- 1 Peter 4:3
