In 1 John 2:2, the apostle says that the death of Christ was "the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world." To me, this indicates that those (such as newborns) who die without having even had the capability to exercise faith in Christ through either the comprehension of the gospel message or the understanding of the witness to Himself that God has placed in nature (Romans 1:20)) are "covered" by that atonement and will spend eternity in God's presence.

(This is also further reinforced for me in the case of newborns (despite the sin nature that all humans possess from birth (Psalm 51:5)) by Jesus' statement that God's kingdom is inhabited by those who come to God in the manner of a little child. (Matthew 18:3; Mark 10:15; Luke 18:17).)

All children are saved up to the age of accountability. Only God knows what that is for each child.

When King David and Bathsheba lost their baby, David said, he can not come to me, but I will go to him. David knew the baby was in paradise, and He would see him there.

Romans 4:6-8 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man to whom the Lord imputeth righteousness apart from works. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Our sin debt was paid in full by Jesus one blood sacrifice of the sins of the whole world. First John 2:2.

Some children never grow mentally and are saved apart from faith in Jesus.
