Consecration involves the dedication of a believer for a divine purpose. (Although the word "holy" is often regarded as a synonym for "sinless", its core meaning refers to this process of dedication, and of separation from the sinful or worldly/temporal.)

In 2 Corinthians 6:17, Paul quotes Isaiah 52:11, as well as Ezekiel 11:17, and Jeremiah 24:5, in telling the believers at Corinth of God's command for them to "come out from them [that is, those of the unbelieving world] and be separate....Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”

Paul himself told the Christians at Rome, "[O]ffer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).

Each day, Christians are to live out their lives as a “holy” and “royal” priesthood to the glory of God, for they are now God’s people (1 Peter 2:9-10).
