Hi, that is a good question, and even though I have been a believer for many years now, I still don't have a great answer to where the best place to start is. But what I would recommend is to pray to God to reveal himself as you read the words. Reading the bible without the help of the holy spirit can sometimes be hard to understand and confusing, But with him he will make the words come alive and minister to your soul. I find starting with the gospel of John a good place to start for new believers as it focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. This can help you receive a revelation of who Jesus is: as God, the beginning and the end, the way, the truth and the life, the great I AM, the son of God, the promised Jewish Messiah, the WORD of God. Once you get those revelations, all other scripture becomes easier to grasp, in my opinion. The teachings of Paul come to life with this revelation. Good luck, and God bless you as you search for the truth in the Holy, inspired word of God.
Great question! My Christian Grandma Mor Mor used to advise me to read a Psalm and a Proverb each day. Billy Graham, my spiritual father, while living, advised others to read 5 Psalms a day and 1 Proverb. He also suggested starting with the gospels in the middle of the Bible instead of at the beginning like we do all other books. This is because it's all about Jesus in the Gospels. The whole Bible is actually all about Jesus, but the Old Testament looks forward to his coming, and the epistles are based on His having come and His return. I just suggested to a seeker, Gabby, my nurse after my heart attack and just before my pacemaker insertion, that she use a modern translation to get started. The one I suggested was the NET Bible, the modern translation with its 60,000 notes, actually 60,932 to be exact. The New English Translation (NET) is still my favorite modern translation after 60 years of studying the Bible.
