I have a daughter who has numerous experiences hearing God speak. I’m positive they were true experiences of hearing God - one seemed to be audible; the other were promptings from within. She truly has ears to hear and eyes to see the things of the Lord. When you read about her experiences you can see that she could not have manipulated things to create the outcome. She’s a true believer that God gave people visions and dreams in Biblical times and that He continues to do the same today. Nothing falls outside of Biblical truths. Acts 2:17 says: “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” Three of her experiences are written about in her book, Right to the Soul. I’m sure if you contacted her, she would even share those three stories with you without purchasing her book.
No. The "still small voice" that people believe may be God speaking to them is actually just them thinking to themselves. What they are saying (thinking) may, however, be inspired by what they have learned in scripture (God's Word), or otherwise. Prophets, receivers of direct communication from God, were required prior to the completion of the Bible. We today have God's complete Word and nothing more is needed for our knowledge and understanding except to study (2 Tim 2:15). We first hear the gospel, and we then believe the gospel for our salvation (Eph 1:13). At the moment of our belief, we are sealed by the holy Spirit of promise until the day of redemption (Eph 1:13, Eph 4:30). No other intervention is necessary while living during God's (Eph 3:2) dispensation of grace. God's Word had not yet been completed while our apostle Paul was receiving and preaching it as it was given to him by Christ ascended, (Col 1:25-26). There would no longer be a need for miracles, signs, wonders or prophetic input once God's perfect Word was complete, "when that which is perfect has come" (1 Cor 13:10). Our "good news" today is found in the 13 epistles of Paul, Romans through Philemon. We walk by faith and not by sight, unlike the miracles that biblical Israel required for their belief (John 4:48, 1 Cor 1:22). If someone requires seeing miracles, signs and wonders today, or divine conversation, then they are simply not walking by faith alone (2 Cor 5:7). We will better understand God's instructions for today when we study scripture as God instructs in 2 Timothy 2:15 "rightly dividing the word of truth", the gospel of our salvation, from that of biblical Israel's 12 apostles (Mat 10:5, Mat 15:24) of times prior (Rom 30:11). As I once heard someone say, "Our sign today is a bloody cross and an empty tomb!" Amen! It is by God's grace that our faith in Jesus Christ dying on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and rising again for our justification saves us (Rom 4:24-25, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 2:8-9).
I humbly submit in Scripture there is speaking a prime example would be Moses another would be Daniel. So in the Old Testament He was speaking and then came the four hundred years of silence to the New Testament. Some folks hold that many prior activities or actions were expiration dated as any worldly item might be? (Luke 8:10; Luke 8:18) As to whether information is being transmitted and received in relation to your question is subject to an examination of the people speaking and just what exactly was spoken. The Bible warns that not all spirits are from GOD and that we must TEST the spirits, to see if it is of value or from the prince of the power of the air. An easy test is every word must line up with SCRIPTURE, with no if, ad, or buts added. That might in anyway seem to mislead away from SCRIPTURE. (Luke 11:35) In our confused age where fashionable delusional drivel can become a new holy truth. Extreme care must be exercised to filter out the sad emotionally theatrical among us. As some may indeed hear voices, the question is just what channel are they tuned for? (Judges 17:6; 2 Corinthians 11:14; 2 Corinthians 11:15) On a personal note in the past I've had people speak a word of knowledge, that at the time made no sense for me, so I did nothing. And then at a later time and place a second person spoke the exact same word to me. And that time it made the hair on my neck stand up and pay close attention to do what had been said. And would indeed later come to past just as it was spoken to me. The thing is that in both cases the very normal and polite messengers were total strangers, never to be seen by me again. (Hebrews 13:2; John 7:24) Bottom line: Say what you will about what is possible in any given season or day. Consider for a moment the mighty works that are being done today in Africa alone, where the faithful have nothing of worldly value but FAITH. And really is there anything too hard for or are HIS arms too short friend? (Isaiah 46:10) "Before God we are all equally wise and equally foolish" ~Albert Einstein In the Lords freedom... warrior on
