I would describe their relationship as being the beginning, middle, and end of a process. Justification occurs when a person first places faith solely in Christ (rather than in anything that he or she has done or can do) in order to be made righteous in God's sight, and to receive salvation and eternal life. Sanctification subsequently occurs on an ongoing basis as the justified believer is progressively made to be more and more Christlike during his or her life by the working of the Holy Spirit. Glorification is the culmination of the process when the believer lives eternally in Christ's presence.
