The primary concern and focus of any Christian should be seeking to honor and glorify not themselves, but God, and to serve Him through their obedience to Him, to give a good witness of their faith to others and to draw them to salvation in Christ.

In this, they are emulating Christ who (as noted by Paul in Philippians 2:5-8), although He was fully God, chose to empty Himself by taking the form of a servant (or slave), being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death -- even the shameful death on a cross. As He Himself said in John 8:50, "I seek not My own glory."

(Also, even from a purely human standpoint, there can be adverse personal consequences that arise from thinking too highly of oneself, as Jesus pointed out in Luke 14:7-11.)

I think there are at least 2 reasons NOT to seek honor for yourself:

Romans 2:7 ESV:
To those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;” [But I believe here Paul is speaking about seeking for the honor of the Lord, not of yourself].

Romans 2:8 ESV:
But for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.

So if you don't seek honor for yourself, you will be rewarded with eternal life.

But if you do seek honor for yourself, you will be rcompensed with judgment.

Also, there is a divine command to keep:
The Complete Jewish Bible

Proverbs 25:27 (CJB): "It isn't good to eat too much honey or to seek honor after honor." (a warning to us).

Another translation puts it this way:
New International Reader's Version

Proverbs 25:27 (NIRV): "It isn't good for you to eat too much honey. And you shouldn't try to get others to honor you." [Emphasis mine].
