Exodus 11:1 - 10
ESV - 1 The Lord said to Moses, "Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.

The leader of Egypt, Pharaoh, had a very hardened heart. Each time Moses pled with Pharaoh to let his people go into the desert to pray, he would reject him even after he had given his approval. Each one of the plagues was worse than the one before in an effort to change Pharaoh's heart. The last plague, claiming his son, was the last straw for Pharaoh. He said, "Go," then he ordered his army to follow and kill them.
