You may be asking yourself the following questions: Am I good enough for heaven? Have I done enough in my life to please God? Will God forgive me of all my sins? The answer to all of these questions is 'NO'! The good news today is that God has offered us the free unmerited gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph 2:8-9)! What does it really mean to have faith in Jesus Christ? Consider the following to better understand your position with God: No one is capable of living a life righteously enough for God (Rom 3:10). Jesus Christ alone lived the perfect life. What is important to know is that He completed it all for us! Have faith in this. Believe that Jesus Christ was perfect for you. It is not about you being 'good enough for heaven'. It is about you coming to the realization that you simply are not, but that Jesus Christ was...for YOU! This leads to question #2. We alone cannot please God without first having faith in Jesus Christ (Heb 11:6). It is our faith in Christ being our savior that pleases Him. This comes when we have finally submitted to the righteousness of God. Having faith in Christ is trusting in the efforts that He made on our behalf. Any effort that we make for salvation actually places us into debt with God (Rom 4:4). The reason for this is because it removes the focus of God's grace and love for us through the shed blood of Jesus Christ and places it on ourselves. Our faith in Christ actually MAKES us the righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:21)! God now sees Jesus Christ in us and thankfully not who we see when we look in the mirror! Lastly, God will not forgive you of your sins. It is most important to understand that God ALREADY forgave the world of ALL our sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross (2 Cor 5:19, Col 1:14). This is the heart of the gospel that we believe for salvation today (1 Cor 15:1-4). Someone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ being their savior understands that their salvation stands on what He did for them. They know without a doubt that they are saved by God's grace through their faith in Him alone and not one thing of themselves. There is now nothing that can separate them from God's love (Rom 8:38-39)!
