Any generosity that humans may exhibit through the sharing of their earthly possessions (which falls under the heading of obedience to God's command that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves), and the spreading of the gospel message, pales in comparison to the generosity of God in making eternal life possible for sinful humans through faith in Christ.

Also, during His earthly ministry, Jesus never exhibited a desire for possessions or material gain, but commanded His followers to use their resources to help meet the needs of others. Relevant passages include Matthew 5:42, Matthew 19:21, and Matthew 25:14-46.

Jesus' generous heart becomes apparent when we look at Him as a member of the Trinity. It is beautiful how Jesus always brought honor and glory to Father and Holy Spirit, rather than to Himself.

People become generous when they put others first. Jesus certainly put others first when He obeyed the Father's decision to give His life for the salvation of mankind.

Also, think about the fact that Jesus rose from the dead and was seated at the right hand of the Father. What a wonderful place to be, right? But instead of staying there, He returned to earth to teach others about Himself and the truth of the gospel.

We are wise to imitate Him. Put aside our desire to be first; put aside our comfort; be generous with what we know and have, especially with our love, and help the world become a better place (like Jesus did).
