How harmful can words be? (Psalm 64:3-6)
(Psa. 64:3-6)
3 who whet their tongues like swords,
who aim bitter words like arrows,
4 shooting from ambush at the blameless,
shooting at him suddenly and without fear.
5 They hold fast to their evil purpose;
they talk of laying snares secretly,
thinking, “Who can see them?”
6 They search out injustice,
saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”
For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

Your question: How harmful can words be? (Psalm 64:3-6) Your words have the power to either bring about righteousness or unrighteousness. They can be used to hurt others or to uplift them in the Lord. You have the choice to use your words for either purpose. James 3:10: “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? Either a vine, figs? So can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace." Do you want to understand a person’s heart? Listen to what they say. For out of your mouth comes what is in a person’s heart. The closer a person walks with the Lord, the more that person will be humble. He will gage his words before speaking. Jesus tells us this. Matthew 5:37: “But let your communication be, 'Yea, yea'; 'Nay, nay'; for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”
