From the book entitled SIMPLE CHURCH by Rainer & Geiger the research seemed to include characteristics of those churches who were growing rather than "scattered " small groups. Also included in that writing was the challenge that all activities of the local body be accountable in fulfilling the vision statement of that body. This second facet would/could filter out activities that could disintegrate into 'seeker friendly' or watered down socializing as opposed to having a 'boot camp' discipling goal or vision of focus.

It is a small church that meets at members house. I read the comments that it doesn't follow God's outline for the church, buy I think it does more the a large church.
In a simple church they are forced to in to fellowship. Each member are breaking bread with each other. This is part of God's plan for the church. It allows each member to know each other, this allows them to teach the word in a more personal way.
In a simple church has to remember that God's goal for us is to reach others, so everyone in a simple church has to be trained to be a leader of a church. So when the need to expand someone of there church can start there own church. This is no different then what large church do.

The idea behind the simple church movement is to emulate the gatherings of Christ-followers in the book of Acts. In the early church age, believers met wherever they could—usually homes (Acts 16:40; Romans 16:3-5; Colossians 4:15)—and learned from whomever had insight about Jesus and His sacrifice.
