Mr. Michael’s answer is great and hits the whys for sure. I might add this consideration to his answer: We do not know when God will call us home to His kingdom.

We are not in control of our quantity of time here on earth, that is in God's hands. With that said, we can make that time more enjoyable. By that I mean quality in our time here. 

Since we are discussing a Christian exercising, I have personally found that an exercise program does in fact improve many areas of my life in a positive experience. I feel better, have more energy, my eating habits conform to my exercise to make sure I get the best for my body that we all have and have to live with until that day. I even have better sleep habits that we must have to ensure mental and physical stability while we are awake and active.
