To compare Buddhism and Christianity is not a wise thing to do. Siddhartha Guatama never intended his presence on this earth to be considered as anything other than what it was; a simple, mortal man teaching and seeking peace. Many, many years later, his teachings became what most call a religion. That was never his intent. He thought of himself as just a man with no special qualities associated with his existence. No promises other than a positive, works-based reward in the next life.

Jesus Christ came to us with a mission of teaching and seeking peace too. The huge difference was, He, Jesus, was the Son of God. His mission included the eternal salvation of anyone who would believe in Him as our savior.

Both men had moral teachings and ways to live. Only Jesus promised salvation in this life, here and now, and not in some reincarnated existence at a future time.

There are many similarities between the goals of both Men; truth, peace, fasting, harmony with others; respect for this creation, etc. Guatama wasn't a god and never claimed to be one.

Jesus knew he was God and spent His life, and death, proving He was the Son of God promising eternal glory for those who call Him Lord!
