The word "Bible" comes from the Latin and Greek words meaning "book," a fitting name, since the Bible is the book for all people, for all time. It's a book like no other, in a class by itself.Sixty...

The Bible is a collection of books, written by dozens of authors over many hundreds of years. (some 1500 as Michael said). Some are very brief–less than a page–while others are much longer. But in spite of their diversity, when you examine them, you discover they all have a common theme: God’s relationship with the human race.

The Bible is divided into the Old Testament, containing 39 books, and the New Testament, containing 27 books. The names given to the Old in the writings of the New are "the scriptures" (Matt. 21:42), "scripture" (2 Pet. 1:20), "the holy scriptures" (Rom. 1:2), "the law" (John 12:34), "the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms" (Luke 24:44), "the law and the prophets" (Matthew 5:17), "the old covenant" (2 Cor. 3:14). There is a break/an interruption of 400 years between the Old Testament and the New.

"What is the Main Point of the Bible?

It trains us up to be like Him

'The Scriptures teach us the best way of living, the noblest way of suffering and the most comfortable way of dying.' - John Flavel," quoted by Heather Adams.

What Is the Bible?

The Bible is the written revelation through which God discloses His will and His nature. Scripture presents itself as God's own speech, carrying His authority and His intention. "The word of the Lord is right; and all His works are done in truth" (Psalm 33:4). It is God communicating His heart to humanity.

The Bible records God's actions in history. It shows how He calls, corrects, restores, and leads His people. Through its pages, God reveals His purposes and His faithfulness. "He made His ways known unto Moses, His acts unto the children of Israel" (Psalm 103:7). It is the testimony of God's involvement with humanity.

The Bible provides direction for living. Its teachings shape character, expose deception, and guide the willing into wisdom.

"The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple" (Psalm 119:130). It forms the inner life of those who receive it.

The Bible is the means God uses to transform His people. His truth cleanses and corrects, leading believers into a life that reflects His holiness. "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you" (John 15:3). Scripture is God's instrument for spiritual growth.

The Bible sustains the soul. It strengthens faith, comforts the weary, and anchors hope. "Thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart" (Jeremiah 15:16). It feeds the spirit with what only God can give.

The Bible stands firm across generations. Its truth remains steady while cultures shift and human ideas fade. "The counsel of the Lord standeth forever" (Psalm 33:11). It is enduring because its Author is eternal.

Summary Statement of the whole topic

The Bible is God's enduring revelation—His voice, His works, His wisdom, His cleansing truth, His nourishment, and His unchanging counsel—given so that humanity may know Him, trust Him, and walk in His ways.
