No matter how much we push back, it seems that the federal government is going to dictate to us.

For many years I have advocated "home" schooling take place in the local church building, which may be largely unused (sadly) during the week. I have simply suggested that all the moms & dads in the vicinity of a particular church building take their children there for joint "home" schooling with other kids. The church governing board would have to add an insurance rider, and parents would be asked to contribute to the expense of lights, gas, and water, of course. Teachers would be Christian moms and dads who are unpaid. "Home" school staff would be unpaid. Security could be provided by "off-duty" police officers and adult males. The children thus "home" schooled would have the opportunity to interact with other children. Parents would provide textbooks and supplies for their children, just as they would do at home. I can't give you any examples of where this has been done. The many, many folks I have contacted about it seem reluctant to take the first step. I'm unclear as to why. Think of the advantage of opening the school day with prayer, of saying the Pledge as "one nation under God indivisible" --- all those things that our public schools either reject or are utterly confused about. Let's keep the government OUT of church-based "home" schooling!
