Wouldn't it be great if the Christian life had a check list? A recipe of sorts to provide instructions that we could follow to ensure we were being "good Christians"? Few things in life really work...

The goal of a Christian is not heaven when we die, but Christ likeness now. I think that means a close personal fellowship with Jesus. Letting Him guide your steps. He is our best friend, and the best way to know what He has to say to us personally is to pray, read and study our Bible. It takes 3 things to know what God has to say to you. What He wants from you. (1.) You (2). the Holy Spirit (3.) the Bible.. In The beginning was the Word (John 1:1) The Bible is the only way God has to speak to us personally, and we should want to talk to our best friend the number one person in our life Jesus. Don't get me wrong a church family is very important. My church is one of the most important things in my life. Worshiping, praising, learning, sharing what you have learned, building each other up. And preparing to take all that out and sharing it with a fallen world each day as a living example of what a Christian and a Christian life should be. A person that that doesn't know Jesus and needs Christ in their life may be watching and counting on you.
My ' short and sweet' answer is this: When Jesus was telling us, as His disciples, as His children that we are to "Love our neighbors as we love ourselves", He was giving us the simplest state of mind, attitude approach and singular focused way of approaching daily life to the fullest that He had/has in mind for us, His children! His simplicity! His purity! His omnipotence! His "boundless" love that is overflowing! As humans and in our ways of thought on any subject, topic or task we seek to find simplicity in that task and the purpose that leads to positive result(s). Jesus gave us the ultimate answer for this internal desire of any Christian that yearns 'to be a good Christian'! He tells us "to love others as He has loved us" (John 15:12-31 and John 13:34-35). For this commandment, I have to give thanks that we have and can enjoy knowing that God truly does love us because He sacrificed the greatest sacrifice, His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ: all because He first loved you and He loved me! "Praise God we have a Savior and His name is Jesus Christ". ~~Andy~~
To be a "Good" Christian we have to obey the Lord, John 14:23. And Jesus gave us a "new" commandment to obey, [Jhn 13:34 NIV] 34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. [1Jo 3:23 NIV] 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. So if we believe in Jesus and love one another, by doing unto others as you have them do unto you...Then we will be "good' Christians... At the same time we'll also be showing that we love God... 1Jo 4:20 NKJV - 20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? Jesus said it wasn't complicated or difficult... [Mat 11:30 NIV] 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
SUBMISSION...SUBMISSION and more submission. Taking into account that you are indeed biblically saved, you have been bought with a price? The Bible says we are not our own. We belong to God, lock, stock and barrel. This means you have no rights. You serve God. Your life is His. Your energies are His. Your time is His. You are not trying to get anything out of God, but giving everything to Him. You are spending your time each day, working to bring Him glory. Remember, you have been saved (I presume), and you can do nothing to save yourself, or to maintain your own salvation as this is sealed within God. So you do not work to earn anything, but to serve...period. This is the victorious Christian life. This is the life we as Christians, must live. It's all about God and His glory. It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with us. We are only His humble vessels.
The only way one can be good is by the Holy Spility, when we train ourselves to yielding to the Holy Spirit always, then goodness cannot help itself other than to flow from us. In the book of John chpter 14 Jesus told his disciples that when he the Holy Spirit comes 1) He will teach them all things, 2)He will reveal to them things to come and 3) He will remind of what He(Jesus) had taught them. This then means without the Holy Spirit we can never be good. He has the ability to lead us in goodness, He is the only source of goodness! It becomes very important therefore that we must know his voice and always obey when he instructs us, then we will become good christians,
Jesus said, without faith it is impossible to please Him. How do we please God? John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that All that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:29 Jesus, answered, and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye believe on the one He has sent. So, first of all, God wants us to accept His free gift of eternal life that He went through so much by dying on that cross to pay for the sins of the whole world, First John 2:2, And He wants us to love Him because of what He has done for us. He paid our sin deb in full so we can never be condemned again. John 3:18. The second thing we can do to show our love to him is the great commission. God into all the world and preach the gospel so that those who hear it can believe it and be saved. The Gospel. First Corinthians 15:3-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. We as believers can earn rewards in heaven by what we do for Him. First Corinthians 3:11-21. The GIFT of God is eternal life. That is free by a one time faith alone apart from any works. Romans 4:5. Our works can not save us, but the works a saved person are for rewards in heaven. Colossians 3 is all about the Christian life. Colossians 3:1-3. We are to lay up treasure in heaven where moth and rust does not corrode. This life is short, and heaven is forever. And has a child of God we should do what pleases Him. Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. But now that we are saved by faith alone apart from works, we should do the works that God has called us to walk in. If we are and obedient child He will bless us here and in heaven If we are a disobedient child He will chasten us to bring us back into fellowship with Him self. First Corinthians 3:11-21 is all the rewards we can earn in heaven. Clear down to wood hay and stubble. We are saved by faith alone apart from works, because our works can not save us.
