I love the book of 1 Peter so much so that I memorized the book and recited it to someone else for a Bible Memory Association, adult program. I especially love the verses about Christ's vicarious suffering: The Bible says: "He committed no sin, and no deceit [or trickery] was found in his mouth." (I Peter 2:22). Then it says, "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed." (I Peter 2:24). Truly, Jesus Christ suffered as our Substitute--that's what I meant by His vicarious suffering. Thank God for this. Otherwise, we would have to suffer the penalty for our own sins, and all of us have sinned, and the wages of sin is death. What is the only way in the world that we can be reconciled to God? That’s what Peter writes about in 1 Peter 3:18—that “Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous…that He might bring us to God!” This must capture our hearts as Christians. And IF you are NOT a Christian yet, become one today! Why? Because that is the ONLY WAY you can be reconciled to God!
