Why is the Bible written using much symbolism that is hard to understand as oppose to simple terms that many can understand?

I think it may be because of the time period the bible was written in. You have to take into consideration that it was written many years ago. We may not understand it, but the people reading it back then might have. Even then, Jesus used parables to explain situations in simpler terms conforming to the traditions of that time period. For example, many of the parables Jesus gave had to do with agriculture because it was something that was familiar to the people. If you are having trouble understanding some of the language in the bible, I suggest that you look for other versions like, the Common English Bible or the Contemporary English Version.
