Why do so many people, even those with no interest in the church or Christ, get Christened?

The majority of people my age I know have been Christened, however many of them (and their parents) do not attend church and do not believe that Jesus was God. It's as if many families Christen children for no reason.

1 - Tradition. Most people in this category baptise their baby / child because it is the 'right' thing to do with no understanding of what baptism is really about. For example, it's because granny was baptised as an infant that their child must also be baptised. In some circles, especially in years gone by, it was scandalous to tell people that your children were not baptised, so in order to avoid persecution, they baptised their children for this reason only.
2 - Probably out of fear that should their child die and they were not baptised, then they may not make it into heaven. This is what some churches teach.
3 - Some of these people have close relatives who are religious and usually its these relatives who insist that the infant needs to be baptised for reasons already mentioned above.
4 - Some religious private schools require the child to be baptised into their denomination in order for them to be accepted into their private school.
5 - Some church organisations will not allow a man and a woman to marry in their church unless one of them has been baptised into their denomination.

And I am sure there are many other reasons to add to this list.

Biblically speaking, water baptism does not save anyone. It's only by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour that we are truly saved. Sadly most people that have been christened and have no personal relationship with Jesus yet they believe they are Christians and are going to heaven. They need to hear the truth of the bible.
