I got the new "need for speed rival" for Christmas, but in this game you race on the streets and the cops chase you. However you can also be a cop chasing street racers. So I was wondering if it was ok for me to be a street racer in the game? Part of me really hopes it is ok because i really enjoy racing games, however I don't want to be supporting breaking the law by racing on streets. For example, i wouldn't play games were you are a hitman because thats supporting something which the bible doesn't approve.

I personally wouldn't role play anything out that's illegal, even if it's not real. But really, what I would do is tune into the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to lead you into truth about it. He will. Jesus said that He would. By you seeking and being concerned about it could be the Holy Spirit trying to tell you something.
Hi Gareth you don't have to worry about playing video games where you are racing in the streets. It is not sinful or wrong to do this. There is a difference between games and reality, and between fantasy and truth. It would be wrong to break the law and go racing in the street in real life and I am sure you don't do this. However it is only wrong because we are told we should keep the law. Rom 13:1 But there is no earthly law against playing video games like this, and there is no heavenly law against it either. Remember, where there is no law against something, there is no sin involved. Rom 4:15 You will find a lot of well meaning Christians who advise you to avoid anything they do not feel is quite as spiritual as they would like. But but the Bible doesn't make these kinds of prohibitions. So test everything by the Bible. Have fun and enjoy the freedom you have in Christ. Regards Philip
A good bit of Scripture to read on the subject of obeying the law is Romans 13:1-7 When we break the laws that were created by our own government, we are in fact disobeying GOD. "For there is no authority except from GOD, & the authorities that exist are appointed by GOD." (Vs. 1b) We may not like those who sit in authority in our government, but they are there because GOD placed them there. He is sovereign over all. Our flesh is a lawbreaker. It wants what it wants. Walking with Christ each day requires diligence & denial of self. That is what Paul was talking about when he spoke of disciplining his body & seeking to receive from Christ, an imperishable (KJV "incorruptible"), crown. And when he said that he brought his body "into subjection", in the Greek that means to "enslave." 1 Cor. 9:24-27 The bottom line is self discipline. We all must work at being disciplined in our walk with Jesus Christ. For some the tempter will use video games, for others it will be something else. We all have weakness to become lukewarm in our worship, our bible study,& our prayer. And the enemy, like a Siren on the rocks, will use that lukewarm-ness to entice us from walking close to Him.. An old preacher from Maine, Edward Payson once wrote, "My parish, as well as my heart, very much resembles the garden of the sluggard; & what is worse, I find that very many of my desires for the improvement of both, proceed either from pride or vanity or indolence. I look at the weeds, which overspread my garden, & breathe out an earnest wish that they were eradicated. But why? What prompts the wish? So that I may walk out & say to myself, 'In what fine order is my garden kept!' This is pride. Or, so that my neighbors may look over the wall & say, 'How finely your garden flourishes!' This is vanity. Or I may wish for the destruction of the weeds, because I am weary of pulling them up. This is indolence." But even so, the most Holy GOD, our precious High Priest took our sins & bore them on His own head so that even as we are, we are accepted in the beloved. Ep. 1:6
Honestly, I, a Christian, don't play video games, but I have advised an avid video game player who once professed Christ, saying, "Why not try 'Left Behind: Eternal Forces'? It is a Christian real-time strategy game developed and published by Inspired Media Entertainment (formerly Left Behind Games) for Microsoft Windows. It was released on November 7, 2006. The game is based on the evangelical Christian Left Behind series of novels. I have read all the Left Behind series for adults and for kids. That's why I said this to my friend, Robert.
Hi, where the mind goes, the man follows. The mind is like a playing field, it screens everything that the 5 senses (feel, see, smell, taste, hear). Take alcohol for example. The very first taste of alcohol is bitter and yucky, but after several times you do not mind the taste; you accept it and it becomes part of your life. One at a time, over time you find yourself getting drunk after 10 glass of your beverages. In similar manner with your games; at the beginning you will feel strange, play it all the time and you will be addicted to it. Secondly, you will become better at doing the lawless thing, training your brain. When you act it out it will be too easy. The devil will be waiting for that opportunity to tempt you.
