I have no supporting scripture but this has been told to me by two different people and I think it is false. I looked in the four Gospels concerning the events of Jesus' death and find no reference to this.

No. It was NOT biblical. There was not any record of blood rain from above when Jesus was crucified.
Nowhere in Scripture does it record a rain of blood on the day Jesus. I could see someone mistakenly referring to the water and blood that poured from Jesus' side after He was pierced as rain. But the answer to your question is a simple no.
Matthew 27:50-53 says: 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Mark chapter 15 says: 37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. Luke 23 says: 44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. There is no gospel account of blood raining from heaven. I think your two people have made a mistake.
