I am excited about hearing what the Bible has to say about things and long to understand God's Word properly. I pray for my Pastor before he preaches and during his preaching, because he goes on "rabbit trails." Is there anything specific that I can pray or do to help him focus on his message, and not wander off topic? I am not an Elder, and it would not be appropriate for me to "council" or "correct" my Pastor. --Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 I long for our our Pastor to be able to feed his flock well from God's Word.

There is nothing wrong with speaking privately with the pastor of your congregation concerning the issue because it affects you as a member of the body. However, many are more comfortable bringing it to the attention of the elders and allowing them to address the situation. If membership declines, I can assure you that they will take action.
As a minister for over 30 years, I can only advise that people pray for and encourage their pastor to "stay on track" STICKING WITH THE BIBLE -- and not get off onto too many anecdotes. "preach the word in season and out of season"!
As a pastor, many of us want to see the members grow so badly that we pour too much milk, or put too much meat on the plate for a single meal. As a member of that local body, your eyes are essential for its growth. Pastors SEE what The Lord shows them, but they must HEAR what The Lord shows you. So please, as they are giving their best to the congregation, give your best support to them...they (We) need it. PJJ
