We are to be good stewards of all that God gives us and provides for us. With our bodies, our jobs, our money and our time. This means we should be wise with all of it, not taking it for granted. Some people will look at this and say, absolutely, you should use your free time to work for The Lord. Living on the mission field for the past 7 years, I have learned to be wise with my free time, and since all of the work I do here is related to working to build God's kingdom, so how would I spend my free time? With more work? If that is true, my family would be pretty upset. Some people will say dedicate your free time to study and prayer. This is noble, but is it necessary? I think free time is not time to schedule Bible study, but it needs to be part of every disciple's work. It should be an integral part of your day. Others will say do with your free time what you want. I agree with this, but also, as said before, we are to be good stewards of even our free time. It is important that you take time for rest and entertainment so as not to get burned out. As long as that activity does not bring you into temptation to sin. God set up a sabbath day, not so that we would simply take time off, but to make sure that we have rest. Physically, emotionally and spiritually, God knows that we need rest (He created us!). So, praise God for time off for rest and recuperation. Your free time is your time, and many people spend it different ways. There is no specific way that you should spend your time Biblically, but the Holy Spirit directs us and gives us wisdom to discern, and we have the whole of God's Word to instruct us as well, again, telling us to be good stewards of what we are given.
