Solomon worshiped at the high place for the same reason people pray to Jehovah and someone else such as one of the saints or mother Mary. While it is true that theTabernacle of meeting was at the high place, worship was done at the high place and at the tabernacle of meeting. The people would sacrifice at the tabernacle of meeting and then burn incense at the high place. Although in a different fashion this type of thing continues even to this day. When Jesus had Peter James and John with him on the mountain of transfiguration, Peter thought it was a good idea to build 3 booths, one each for Jesus, Moses and Elijah. He was told by Jehovah to focus on Jesus Matthew 17. Throughout Scripture man is shown to be wishy -washy in prayer and worship, and not much has changed. We must learn to wait on God. He alone answers prayer.
