We cannot trust someone we don't know, and that is the secret of learning to trust God. When someone says, "Trust me," we have one of two reactions. Either we can say, "Yes, I'll trust you," or we ...

Who else can we trust. Can we find a friend so faithful. Friends will forsake us, those that we love can become our enemies, but God is faithful who will not ever leave us or forsake us. He is our most faithful friend. Who can share our sorrows, who can give us hope in the storm, who can still love us even when we are unfaithful, who remembers that we are just dust, who loves us when we are unlovable, who is our redeemer and friend, who has forgiven us for all our sins and will remember them no more, who has given us His righteousness because we have none of our own. Those who have put their trust in the Lord will not be ashamed. He has loved us with an everlasting love. If Jesus went through what He did for us, He is the one true friend that we can trust with all our hearts. It is in the worst storms that we learn to trust Him. When we think He has forsaken us, we remember that is impossible. When we think we can separate ourselves from the love and mercy of God we know that is not true. If our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart. Faith comes from hearing from the word of God. We will never find a more faithful friend than Jesus who gave Himself for us so that we might have fellowship with God by faith. Faith is knowing that we can never be cast away because He loved us with an everlasting love. John 6:37. Proverbs says, trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love. I hope this builds someone up in the faith as we are to build each other up in the faith.
No one can "learn" to trust God. You must simply make a conscious decision to trust him, or to deny him (by thought or action). There is no gray area. Even the smallest amount of doubt shows your distrust in him. So its either complete trust or no trust at all, but the choice is yours and yours alone. No one can make the decision for you.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (prov 3:5-6 NIV). What I've found is "leading to our own understanding" is one point that interferes with our trust in God. I frequently have to remind myself to stop trying to do everything in my own power. We are often afraid the He won't do it "our way". But His ways are not our ways! I agree, Trusting in God is a personal decision. It's a scary one, but it's worth it!
There are many reasons to trust God because He 1. died for our sins so that we could be eternally happy with Him. 2. created a beautiful world for us to admire and enjoy with its trees, flowers, animals, stars and nature in general. 3. showed us how to live a joyful life in Him through instructions in the Bible. 4. is the fount of all good things like love, joy, peace, mercy, faith, healing, justice, creation. The list of His blessings just go on and on. 5. made us in His image so that we could have part of His creative, artistic, logic and intelligence abilities. 6. comforts us in our pain and grief in this fallen world. In short, our God Jesus Christ s truly awesome and great and more than worthy of our trust. Praise His mighty name!
