Why are the prophecies of the end times so harsh on Christians?

What prophecies do you mean? Can you be more specific?
I Thess 4:15-18 assures us that Jesus will bring us up together into the clouds to "meet the Lord in the air. And Thus we shall always be with the Lord."
Rev 4 until Rev 20 doesn't even mention the church because it has been removed before all of the events between Rev 4 and Rev 20 take place.
There will be a great revival during the Tribulation, which will create new Christians and these are the ones who will suffer under the anti-christ. Things WILL be bad for them but they will realize that their hope is in Christ and eternity and God will give the grace they need to forbear through those terrible end times.
