How do I resolve conflict with a close family member who has failed to keep his/her word and has disappointed me more than once?

First and foremost, pray about it. If after doing so you are still offended and feel wronged follow the Biblical procedure below.

"Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him." (Luke 17:3-4).

I know firsthand it is much easier to talk about someone rather than talking to them. There will always be a friend or family member willing to take sides and "stir the pot" but if the confidant is not directly involved or of a heart to give good, Christian advice keep them out of it.

In simple terms go to the individual privately in love and confront them with your grievance. Be prepared for rejection and denial of you personally and your claim. On the other hand they may not realize they have offended or hurt you and may readily repent after being made aware. Ask the question: "How would you feel toward me if I did..........." I.E. turn it around.

Just remember the intent and purpose should be restoration, not destruction. How you handle the situation to a degree will determine the outcome.

The philosophy of "sweeping it under the rug" will only provide a temporary fix which if harbored, will potentially become the ignition for a forest fire, should another incident occur. (James 3)

" If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." (Romans 12:18)
